It is the cause of liquid petroleum hydrocarbon released in the water or on land. Oil spills are hard to clean up depending on the type of oil and it takes weeks, months or even years.

  • The actual pollutants associated with the source (list)

  1. Sulfate Reducing Bacteria which is anaerobic
  2. General Aerobic Bacteria is aerobic

Oil contains many things such as petroleum hydrocarbons, metals, naturally occurring radioactive materials, salt, and deadly toxic chemicals.
These chemicals prevent plants to grow because they get into the soil and pollute it.
  • Potential impacts/dangers of the pollutants (list)

  • Though there haven’t been many oil spills recently, all the past oil spills have been ruining the fishing industry. The oil spills also resulted in huge economic losses; every time oil gets spilled, the gas prices go up. The best way to fix this problem is to start producing more electric cars.
  • Harder for animals to find their babies because the use scent, and the oil takes away the scents
  • Since the babies get abandoned, they starve and eventually die.
  • Ruins the plumage of birds which inables them to fly and avoid predators. When the birds also intake the oil, this can cause kidney damage, and only less than one percents of birds survive after they are cleaned.
Mammals are more open to temperatures they aren't necessarily used to because of what happens to their fur during oil pollution. The oil can cause the animals to become blind, and get hypothermia. Like the birds, the animals can ingest the oil and eventually die.
